faith of jesus

Foundational Principles | E. J. Waggoner

Excerpt: "The just have to live their lives on this earth in the flesh, and that life is the life which they live by faith. The physical life of the just person is by faith. 'I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.' Gal. 2:20. The life of Jesus is to be "made manifest in our mortal flesh.' 2 Cor. 4:11."  E. J. Waggoner.

"The Faith of Christ."

"The Faith of Christ."

       Much is lost, in reading the Scriptures, by not noting exactly what they say. Here we have literally, "the faith of Christ," just as in Rev. 14:12 we have "the faith of Jesus." He is the Author and Finisher of faith. Heb. 12:2. God has "dealt to every man the measure of faith" (Rom. 12:3), in giving Christ to every man. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom. 10:17), and Christ is the Word. All things are of God. It is He who gives repentance and forgiveness of sins. {80}

Lessons on the Science of Faith-6

The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald

Vol. 76, No. 1.—Battle Creek, Mich., January 3, 1899,—p. 8.

Faith is the expecting the word of God to do what the word says, and depending upon that word to do what the word says.

When this is clearly discerned, it is perfectly easy to see how it is that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Faith is the expecting the word of God to do what it says, and the depending upon that word to do what it says.

As that is faith, and as faith comes by the word of God, it is plain that the word of God, in order to inculcate faith, must teach that the word has in itself power to accomplish what itself says.

WHEN the centurion said to Jesus that he need not "come and heal" his servant, but that if he would "speak the word only," the servant would be healed, Jesus "said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

"The knowledge of what the Scripture means when urging upon us the necessity of cultivating faith is more essential than any other knowledge that can be acquired."

 The centurion desired that the Lord should do for him a certain thing. The Lord said, "I will come," and do it. The centurion said, No; "speak the word only," and it shall be done.

"The knowledge of what the Scripture means when urging upon us the necessity of cultivating faith, is more essential than any other knowledge that can be acquired."

In order to be able to know what the Scripture means when urging upon us the necessity of cultivating faith, it is essential to know, first of all, what is faith

The Faith of Abraham Was the Faith of Jesus.

Abraham received the promise of an heir and an inheritance, as recorded in Gen. 15:1-5; and verse 6 says, "He believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” In James 2:21-23 we are informed that the scripture quoted above had its fulfilment when Abraham offered up his son Isaac, about forty years after the events had occurred in connection with which the statement was made.
